"Imperfect people Serving a Perfect God"

     Dateline: Minneapolis

It seems like the world is attempting to take Jesus out of Easter. I know there has been a long standing battle to remind people of "the reason for the season" every December but at least the majority of the deceptive Christmas myths and secular songs tend to have a bit of "spirit" (giving etc.) in them. However, the commercials and advertisements for Easter go something like this- a young boy reciting his "basket list" to his mom... A calming voice assures us that we can find all of our "basket filling needs" at their brick and mortar store. There is no rhyme or reason as to why a child deserves an Easter basket, society tells us it is just something we do. When you gaze upon the Easter display at Target, Walmart, or Walgreens the cross is represented alongside everything else... and like everything else it is edible, being made of low grade chocolate.

I know that even the word "Easter" used to cause a bit of consternation in the old days. Matter of fact, we call it resurrection Sunday. But somehow in the midst of the world's business the name Easter has become a more powerful and recognizable marketing tool than ever and the resurrection of Jesus Christ has faded into obscurity behind a pastel colored parade of secular commercialism.

As for me and my house- we will worship the Lord and celebrate our risen King. We will make Easter Sunday a big deal in my house... Because Jesus rising from the grave was the most important event of all time. In our church we will sing "Were You There?, "Christ the Lord is Risen Today," and  "Up from the Grave." The Scriptures proclaiming His victory will be preached and prayers of thanksgiving will be heard.

The Apostle Paul said without the resurrection our faith is worthless (my paraphrase). This year, it has become blatantly obvious that no one else is going to talk about Jesus. Not the retailers, not the schools, not the media, not the government. Nope. It is up to us. You and me. So, give your faith some worth this week and tell people about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. By the way, you ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart!
