News Hope Weekly 2/22/17

My dissertation research dealt with Christian and Biblical influences on heavy metal music. As a long time fan (and contributor) to the genre, I was blessed to report the testimonies of some of my favorite bands. However, I was also reminded that there are many, many lost souls in the music business.

There is also the story of  one band I could have sworn had become Christian. It was as though the salvation process was obvious in their lyrical content and the words to their songs seemed to get more and more "holy" on each album. In fact, I'll admit, I related to the lyrics in a personal way... However, when I contacted the songwriter I was told a "different truth." He stated that he did read the Bible (hence the source of the aforementioned lyrics), simply because he was interested in "the occult and ancient religious books." To put it simply, when it came to the songs he sang, the messenger did not live the message.

I guess there is a three fold lesson here. First, a non-believer was probably less ashamed to vocalize the Bible than many Christians are today. Second- my behavior represents the tendency to "spray holy water" on something we like (search for a benign spiritual motive in a movie, song, TV show, book, game) so that we can justify our affinity for it. Third- What about us? Are we walking the walk and talking the talk? Is the Word of God alive and active in us?  Does "our song" Glorify God and Praise the Prince of Peace?

Bottom line- is your testimony true enough to bless another person or is it just shallow, superficial, and spiritless ?
