News Hope weekly 8/31/16

Dateline: Phillips West

Right down the street from the New Hope Baptist Church location are two 14 story public housing towers. In these towers there are many Somali people, especially older folks. We are part of a volunteer group that began teaching ESL classes in the towers a few months ago. I have been a part of the team since its inception and I will honestly say I have learned much in the past few months and been blessed by the experience. In fact, we had a mission team from Texas here at New Hope and they said that the best part of their mission trip was the ESL classes. I say all these things for a reason- we need help. Specifically we need volunteers to tutor and teach. Last week, I had 3 students at my table in what is intended to be a one-on-one tutoring session.

You do not need experience, the lesson plans lead themselves. All you need is time on Tuesday or Wednesday between 3:30 and 5PM (these are the days/hours of the classes) and a heart to reach people's "real" and "felt" needs (we bath these classes in prayer and the majority of the lessons include Scripture).

Pray about this and ask the Lord how you can help.
