Luther Perkins became famous as the guitar player for the Tennessee Three ( Johnny Cash's band). He was also known for inventing his own style of playing; for which he would mute the strings with his palm and pick the notes rhythmically. It sounded something like "boom- chicka- boom- chicka..." (anyone familiar with Cash's music can hear it in their head right now).
I remember seeing an interview in which someone asked Luther, who was an accomplished musician, why he didn't play with more "flourish" and show off his skills. Luther responded by demonstrating his talent with a lightning fast blues riff and his wisdom with these words, "That's what people play like when they are still looking for the notes I already found." Luther then when into a signature "boom- chicka- boom- chicka.." leaving the reporter speechless.
Folks, in this world of "mass-everything" let us not over-complicate the Gospel message we have already found. We don't need to impress anyone. We just need steadfast obedience and child-like faith... boom-chicka-boom-chicka....
