Dateline: On the 13th day of Christmas…

A few years ago we began celebrating the 12 days of Christmas at our house. This means Christmas starts in December 25th and runs through the Day of Epiphany on January 6th. We make each day special and it has become a tradition that is the highlight of our year. On January 7th, we take down all the Christmas decorations.

This year as we were taking down the tree I noticed a small unwrapped gift under that had escaped discovery. The gift was lovingly (and obviously) wrapped by a preschooler with green tissue paper and a red ribbon. I took the small gift to my son and said, "Antioch, look! There is one more present for you!" Immediately he replied, "No daddy, that present is from me and it is for you."  We sat down together and I unwrapped the paper to find a small clear plastic bowl that was sealed by a white plastic lid. Since the bowl was clear I could see that it did not contain anything. So, I asked my son, "What's the deal with the empty bowl?" He said. "Daddy it is not empty. It is full." My curiosity now peaked, I replied, "Okay, what is it full of?" My son looks at me and says, "It is full of a prayer I made for you."

Needless to say, this will be the most memorable gift I got this year, and the most valuable… I believe we will have a 13th day of Christmas next year.

It makes me think- if this prayer means so much to me, how much more do our prayers mean to our heavenly father? Do yourself a favor and fill up a gift to God with prayer today.
