"A place to find peace from all the cares, concerns, and conflicts in the world"
Dateline: Between 2 Sabbaths
I love this newsletter because it allows me to connect with many people around the world. Lats week's newsletter yielded much needed advice, encouragement, and even invitations to have coffee in Tennessee and Israel (you all are far to clever to let me slip by when I said "give me a week's notice and I will be there"). Thank you for your support!
Of all the great benefits and blessings the call to pastor New Hope Baptist church has provided one particular learning lesson stands out; the church job description requires me to obey the "Sabbath Principle." I was reminded of this as I prepared a sermon on Genesis 2:1-3 for this Sunday's service. After much prayer, study, and reflection I have this bit of advice for you- do the Sabbath. No that is not some kind of dance craze, it is one of the Ten Commandments. It was practiced by the people in the Old Testament, "Inter-Testament", and New Testament and should be practiced by us "post- Testament" people as well.
Okay, I know just said fightin' words to some people. I also know that the NT shows people fighting about the Sabbath, too. But here's the deal- the real deal- you were made, by your creator, to have a "day of rest."
Here is the other deal- called personal testimony- the Sabbath Principle works. Today the line between work and home is nearly non-existent for most people and it is up to us to draw that line. Just as many doctors and scientists who tediously research the natural world for answers come face to face with the wonder and magnificence of God in their work, so now are sociologists and cultural anthropologists championing the merits that "time off" has on the human condition... go figure?
As I said, the church job requirement was something I had to learn. I suggest you begin to do the same. You will be blessed.
