Tonight I took a moonlight drive and prayed for our country. I remember a while back we had a guest speaker come to the churches in Minneapolis. The speaker talked about all the things she observed that needed correction and prayer to help the city. After the speaker finished, I stood up and gave a lengthy account of all the things that have changed for the better in Minneapolis ( I thought I needed to "stand up" for my hometown). The speaker looked at me and said these words, "Brother it is important, when we are doing God's work, to not look at where we have come from but look to where we God wants us to be." I will never forget these words.
Today I realized that too many Christians are looking to where we have come from.... similar to what I was doing but with a different approach. These Christians lament where are country is headed and hearken back to the "good old days" in America. I say that the speaker's quote to me is just as relevant to these Christians and we all need to realize that yesterday's glory is incomparable to where God wants us to be tomorrow.
Hope and faith- two words that are pillars of the Christian faith- have nothing to do with nostalgia. Please pray that God's people would rise up and speak up with anticipation and expectation for the promises of God that have yet to come. This country needs it...
