Rev. Rock Prayer Project 9/19/2013

Today I prayed on 5th Avenue South between Minnehaha Parkway and Franklin Avenue. I have seen every aspect of life on 5th Ave. The highs- weddings, baptisms, and neighbors working together. The lows- prostitution, drug dealing, and neighbors harming one another. And the just plain weird- like the deer head that was mounted 25 feet high on the freeway wall a few years ago (see photo).

In the 1990's a plan was devised to declare the Phillips Neighborhood a federal disaster area, bulldoze it, and start over. Although that plan never reached fruition, there are a few blocks of 5th Ave. South that were subjected to concepts which drove this idea. Even today, in attempt to "better the neighborhood," there continues to be physical restoration on this street. Today I prayed for Spiritual restoration... What we need is true restoration for the people, not the places on 5th Ave. South.
