2 Kings 13:20 Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year. 21 So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet.
I read a comment on this passage that I would like to share today; "The bones of Elisha seemed to retain a residual amount of the spiritual unction in which Elisha functioned. Bones provide structure and frame. Past revivals and spiritual outpourings may retain elements of the spiritual anointing they possessed in the lively years. Similarly, as with the dead man cast into Elisha's grave, revival may occur when those things considered dead and spiritually vacant make contact with the older structures and its previous unction." - author unknown.
Before I give you my 2 cents on this, I implore you to go back and read the passage and comment again. Brood over them for a bit...
I drive past 10 or so church buildings in the 3.4 miles I travel to get to my church. Many of these building are well over 100 years old and most do not have near the activity and influence they once had. Thus, the trend (for people) today is to make new churches. However, we must remember the past. In fact, we must praise God that these places are still here! God knows these addresses. He is well aware of the churches I drive past. He knows their history. He gave them spiritual unction. He made their "bones."
