Whenever I ask somebody what they can give Jesus, the answer is usually something like "my time" "my life" "my heart" "my best" "everything" "my soul" "my love" etc. While all these are good things to give to our Lord. I do not believe that is what He really wants for Christmas…
In fact, I bet you that the one thing Jesus wants for Christmas from each of us is our sin. The Messiah Jesus Christ was born, and died, to take our sin… this is the Gospel truth. Think about it, the thing that holds you back, keeps you mired in guilt, causes you to doubt; sin. That is what Jesus wants. He is the only One who can bear the burden of sin, a burden He bears so that we do not have to.
What a glorious witness to this sin-ridden world! Give Jesus your sin! That's right, that's what He wants so much that He was sent by the Father to bear the penalty for all people who will just Him their sin. People you know may think that God and His church is about something else, something monetary, something material… But you can tell them with certainty that it all starts by giving Jesus what He really wants; their sin.
Try it out. Ask someone what they would like to give Jesus for Christmas this year. Witness to them by reminding them that the most important thing we can give the Greatest Gift Himself is something no one else (hopefully even ourselves) wants; except for Him, the One who literally has everything. He is the only One who wants our sin for Christmas.
Merry Christmas, be blessed, give up your sin. Let's make this the best Christmas the Lord ever had.
As a reminder- we are having a Christmas Eve. Candlelight service from 5-6PM this Saturday (with an organ player and traditional Christmas Hymns) and no services on Sunday.
