News Hope Weekly 4/21/15

Is there a Dr. in the house?

I recently read an article (reprinted in Reader's Digest) titled, "7 First Aid Mistakes That Are More Dangerous Than You Think" in which Jeffery Pelligrino, PhD, listed mistake # 7 as "making it hard for the EMT to find you." Dr. Pelligrino gave this as an example/instruction to avoid the perils of said mistake, "Choking in a restaurant? Don't run to the bathroom. "People die in bathrooms from choking because they don't want to disturb other diners. They collapse, and nobody knows why."

Apparently people would rather die than "make a scene." I cannot help but make an evangelical observation about this; we cannot expect anyone (friend/co-worker/family member/classmate/neighbor/fellow restaurant patron) to suddenly exclaim, "Help me! I am dying from the wages of sin!" We cannot expect someone to cry out, "Heeeeellllppp!!!!! Someone is choking on iniquity! Is there a Christian in the house?"

People would rather die than make a scene, call for help, or inconvenience anyone. By the power of the Holy Spirit, it is up to us to be on constant watch for signs and symptoms of the distresses of the soul. We have been commissioned as spiritual lifeguards, EMT's for Jesus. "Jesus' EMT's" are on call 24/7 and "Jesus' EMT's" need to stop expecting people to make it easy to find them.
