Early in my call to the ministry I was invited to start a pastor's prayer meeting at a Christian coffee shop on Lake Street in South Minneapolis. The location of the meeting was an abandoned XXX theater that had closed and been converted (and thankfully re-purposed) into a Christian coffee shop.
On the wall of the shop was a large sign reading, "Some want to live within the sound of church or chapel bell; I want to run a rescue shop within a yard of hell."- C. T. Studd
As a novice inner-city preacher I found this quote to be somewhat encouraging. Admittedly, it has taken me ten years to fully grasp its meaning. Matter of fact, this quote may be becoming an increasingly relevant call to action for every Christian soul alive today.
It may seem as though the has an increasing real estate empire in our world today. War, disease, famine, and moral decay seem to be everywhere but there is one place they will never prevail- the church of Jesus Christ (AKA the "rescue shop.")
Are you ready to join His rescue team?
